The Prompt
Roadtripping and camping is a popular hobby for many people. Determine unmet needs for roadtrippers/van-life enthusiasts and create designs to address those needs.
The Idea
How might we assist people in monitoring their camper vehicles to increase safety and security?
The idea is a portable security camera that can be brought along during roadtrips. With the combination of 4 of these devices, users could theoretically have a complete 360 degree external view of their vehicle.

User Research Synthesis
Both quantitative and qualitative reasearch were conducted through the form of surveys and interviews. A total of 32 responses were collected for the survey and there were 6 people who were interviewed.
of survey pool worry about the security of their vehicle when parked
of survey pool would be interested in a way to check in on their vehicle while away
of survey pool would sleep in their vans or RVs when they camp
“You know, there are those situations during the middle of the night where you hear something and you’re not sure what it is...”
“It’d be nice to have a way to check in on your vehicle when you’re off on a hike or something you know?”
Ideation
Exploration
A variety of ideas were sketched whihc included: window shutters, window barriers, window straps, laser sensors, proximity sensors, cameras, etc.
Final Concept
After multiple rounds of ideation and critiques, I combined various ideas into one final concept: a portable security camera.
This direction best answered the question of "How might we assist people in monitoring their camper vehicles to increase safety and security?"
The Camera
The final product is a portable security camera that can be brought along during roadtrips. With the combination of 4 of these devices, they allow users to take security recordings of their vehicle.
